Richard Stone received the 1984 Nobel Prize in Economics for having made fundamental contributions to the development of systems of national accounts and hence greatly improved the basis for empirical economic analysis. This work opened new questions and influenced later research and practice. This achievement represents one of the major advances recognized in economics at the time.
