Gustaf Dalén received the 1912 Nobel Prize in Physics for his invention of automatic regulators for use in conjunction with gas accumulators for illuminating lighthouses and buoys. This work opened new questions and influenced later research and practice. This achievement represents one of the major advances recognized in physics at the time.
