Physics · 1913
Heike Kamerlingh Onnes received the 1913 Nobel Prize in Physics for his investigations on the properties of matter at low temperatures which led, inter alia, to the production of liquid helium. The contribution became an important reference point for later work in the field. This achievement represents one of the major advances recognized in physics at the time.
