Jean Baptiste Perrin received the 1926 Nobel Prize in Physics for his work on the discontinuous structure of matter, and especially for his discovery of sedimentation equilibrium. This work opened new questions and influenced later research and practice. This achievement represents one of the major advances recognized in physics at the time.
