Privacy Policy

1. Information We Collect

Thank Science collects minimal information to provide you with the best experience:

  • App preferences (stored locally on your device)
  • Feedback submissions (when you choose to provide feedback)
  • Anonymous learning activity, only after you opt in

2. How We Use Your Information

Your information is used solely to:

  • Provide and preserve the features you choose
  • Improve our content and features
  • Respond to your feedback and support requests

3. Data Storage

Most preferences, bookmarks, feedback history, and guest mystery progress are stored locally on your device. Guest mystery answers stay on your device. If you are signed in, one minimal response per daily mystery is stored so we can preserve completion and calculate anonymous community totals.

The Moon Drop Science Sprint stores only the last completion date on your device so it can recognize a distinct-day return. If you deliberately create a private challenge, the server stores a random token hash, the sprint identifier, your coarse before-and-after prediction, whether you revised it, creation and expiry times, and whether the one-time comparison was claimed. It does not store the token itself, either participant's identity or contact details, a message, or the recipient's result. The link expires after seven days and can be compared once.

4. Optional First-Party Analytics

If you choose “Share anonymous usage analytics,” Thank Science records limited events such as a card being visibly engaged for five seconds, opening Go deeper, saving or sharing a card, following a topic, reaching the end of a topic deck, opening a source, content-quality feedback, starting or completing the Daily Mystery, and moving through the aggregate Science Sprint funnel. Science Sprint events record stages such as first action, completion, optional explanation, challenge arrival, comparison, rematch, and distinct-day return—not a challenge token, contact, name, message, or individual comparison. We do not send card body text or free-form feedback with these events.

A consenting guest receives a random installation identifier stored on that device. Signed-in activity uses a one-way server-generated identifier instead of your raw account ID. We do not fingerprint devices or try to match guests across devices. Clearing site data resets the guest identifier, so installation counts are privacy-safe estimates rather than exact counts of people.

Raw analytics events are retained for up to 90 days for product diagnosis. Non-identifying daily aggregates may be retained for up to 400 days. Analytics are first-party and are not used for advertising.

5. Information We Do Not Collect for Analytics

Analytics do not store IP addresses, raw user-agent strings, precise location, advertising identifiers, contacts, personal profile fields, search text, free-form feedback, or the body text of science cards. We do not use third-party analytics or advertising trackers.

6. Your Choices and Rights

You have the right to:

  • Access your data (stored locally on your device)
  • Delete your data (clear browser data/cache)
  • Turn off “Share anonymous usage analytics” in Settings at any time
  • Clear queued analytics and the guest installation identifier immediately by opting out
  • Use supported browser privacy signals, which prevent collection

Choosing not to share analytics does not reduce app functionality, and analytics failures never block reading, saving, sharing, sign-in, Mystery or Science Sprint completion, or navigation.

7. Children's Privacy

Thank Science is designed for general audiences and does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new policy on this page.
